The movie Mommie Dearest (1981) is based on a 1978 autobiography written by Christina Crawford close her adoptive come Joan Crawford. It was a bestselling memoir characterisation the abusive and traumatic upbringing at the hands of her mother Joan. It was one of the first tell all books written about a celebrity. The movie depicts Joan Crawford (Played by Faye Dunaway) as a despotic clean housekeeper who expects the same and tries to control the lives of those around her (Movie clips, 2011).
