They came to America looking for religious independence and precious to purify the Church of England. The Puritans felt that there was a nominate for God sending them to the New World. They preached that hoi polloi should always detain God-fearing and let righteousness rule their lives. All puritans were anticipate to canvass the bible or were considered to follow the Devil. Although the Puritans were rigid followers of their religion and came to America searching religious freedom, they actually had zero margin rules. The Puritans valued religion greatly and did not let anyone fare another religion. eitherone who defied their religion or did not practice it well was tortured. This is ironic because the Puritans themselves were fleeing persecution. An influential person became Roger Williams who was an advocate of freedom of religion. He believed that no religion should be forced upon the people and they should practice as they wish in no fear. He upset the colony so much that he was ultimately removed. A colony that is to be an example for others should also be strong socially. The Puritans believed that all people should receive an education. This also meant that women were taught to read and write so that they could teach their children. Schools taught by women were called Dame schools.
