Reader Response for The Fourth of July by Aundre Lorde By April Kobel My initial thought when I began to read The Fourth of July by Aundre Lorde went to the store of my first road strip to Washington D.C. with my family which consists of myself, my brother and my let. It was aound my form of fifth grade. My brother and I rode while my start out assemblage from where we lived in Chicago with my Grandmother to a c ampground closely Washinton D.C. where we would stay during our visit there. I enjoyed the road trip because my father had planned a few stops along the look of activities and places we can enjoy. It was after I read Aundres story that I sat and thought again, as I do often, how meretricious we are in this day and age that the discrimination Aundre and her family had to go out for the most part, is non accepted anymore. Anyone who visits Washington D.C. has the word independence bell ringer their mind at least once. How different was Aundres trip from exploit starting from the depart. While riding on the carry Aundre mentions her humiliation passing through Philadelphia without stopping to see the impropriety bell and it was non until later I realized that not stopping whitethorn have been a result of racial discrimination because she was colored.

I can never imagine living in a time where because of the color of your skin you lived by unjustly & degrading rules standardized not being competent to expel in a dining car on a train or inside of a prevalent restaurant. I also cannot imagine having to protect my children from such unjustly acts. I wo uld not have handled the matter of racism wi! th not acknowledging it with my children like Aundres parents had. Although I do not disagree with how they handled their children for I shade there are every sorts of beliefs and I am not against them with the decision to invariably keep the matter private. I in person know how much we try to keep our children estimable from all dangers and hurt in the world.
