The Trial: The trial has significance because it is the only reason, at to the lowest degree the only explanation the writer gives to the reader, why the teller has been vest here alone. The narrator becomes quite estranged at this point because he could have died if he didnt fall where he did. The pendulum backs the penning of inevitable death because everyones time eventually runs out. This also creation one of the punishments he received in the trial. Giving the narrator two possibilities for the storys outcome. He can escape or he can lay there and accept his death.
